The world's longest undersea tunnel links the main island of Honshu with Hokkaido.
The tunnel is 54.85 km and 100 metres below the sea floor. At the deepest point the tunnel is 240 metres below sea level and includes two emergency stations below the sea. While completed in 1988, it only opened to Bullet Train operations this year. The trains are currently limited to speed of 160 km/h while in the tunnel.
