The Hayabusa is the train that runs from Hakodate in Hokkaido to Tokyo and run at speeds of up to 360 km/h. In an emergency cat-ear like air brakes pop up on the roof to help them slow down. Don't know if any deployed their air brakes during this morning's earthquake but the Shinkansen automatically starts breaking at the first sign of a quakes. Currently they are running around 45 minutes late due to having to check the lines after the earthquake.
