Yaesu
Yaesu is the area just south of Tokyo Station, where the main underground mall is. The area's name dates back around 400 years and is named after the Dutch adventure Jan Joosten van Lodensteyn who had his home in the area. Jan Joosten and Englishman William Adams became shipwrecked in Japan in 1600 and the both of them became high ranking Samurai in the service of the Shogun. The novel shogun is loosely based on the life of William Adams. There is a monument with a map in the underground mall giving details of the location of Jam Joosten's home and the voyage he made to get to Japan.
